Institute of Engineering and Technology Took Part in the “Turnstiles-Open Days” Event

South Ural State University took part in the All-Russian “Turnstiles-Open Days” event, with the active support from the regional Office of the Russian Engineering Union for the Chelyabinsk Region. The goal of the event is the career guidance counselling within the jobs being offered by our country’s leading enterprises, as well as the popularization of engineering and service jobs.

University students learned more about our region’s leading industrial enterprises, about the production process specifics, as well as about the internship and employment opportunities. Representatives of the enterprises shared on the career prospects, working conditions, wages, and social support provided for young specialists by the enterprises.

“South Ural State University acts as a mediator between school pupils, students and the major enterprises of the Chelyabinsk Region. SUSU introduces pupils to its academic programmes where they could get training, and the enterprises — to their jobs’ specifics, what helps promote the education in the field of engineering and mindful choice of profession. Students also see the opportunities of taking internship, getting a job, and get an understanding of their future career prospects, working conditions and wages,” shared organizer of the “Turnstiles-Open Days” Ivan Lutokhin.

As part of the “Turnstiles-Open Days” event, excursions to our city and region’s enterprises were organized for students of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology obtaining their education at the Department of Machines and Processes of Pressure Metal Working, the Department of Materials Science, Physical and Chemical Properties of Materials, and the Department of Wheeled and Tracked Vehicles.

The Technological Equipment Engineering major implies the use of the best practices on implementing the technologies of pressure metal treatment. This includes the modern methods of modelling of the rolling technology with the use of the 3D format, the research on and design of equipment with the help of engineering computer programs, and the application of neural networks and artificial intelligence. This program of training takes into consideration all contemporary trends of the industry’s development and is very much in-demand in production.

Materials scientists are researchers and engineers, who are interested in the production-and-technology, research, organizational and managerial activities in the field of innovative technologies of obtaining new materials, coatings, processing and production of goods with these.

The Wheeled and Tracked Vehicles academic programme trains specialists for mechanical engineering, which is one of the key sectors of the economy. Students can obtain Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Specialist degrees, and are trained to work in designing, testing, production and operation of automobiles, tractors, engines, and road-building and special-purpose machinery.

Students visited the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant and learned more about the production where they can get a job after they complete their Bachelor’s studies. Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant is an enterprise that not only has many traditions and rich history, but also one that intensively develops and feels optimistic about the future. That is why the company’s management pays much attention to the personnel matters.

“Our department has quite long-standing and mutually beneficial partnership relations with the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant. Every year the enterprise’s leading specialists act as members of the State Certification Commission, and our students take internship at the plant’s subdivisions,” noted the all-time supervisor and organizer of the excursions Oleg Siverin.

The excursions, to which Mechel company invites students, are famous for hospitality and high level of technical preparation for the event. Students visited the rail-and-structural steel mill. Leading technologist Ruslan Valimukhametov talked about the modern technologies and equipment. Rail-and-structural steel mill is a modern complex production of high-quality rail rolled steel and structural steel.

The steel mill produces various types of rails, I-beams, channels, and other sections, which are used in construction and mechanical engineering. The production uses the world’s most up-to-date developments in sheets rolling, levelling, finishing, and quality control. An excursion was also organized to OOO PKF Politrans company (in the city of Yuzhnouralsk), which produces heavy-hauler towed vehicles.

The company’s chief technologist Aleksandr Golitsyn took the future engineers to the main production sites and shared on the specifics of the technological process. A pleasant bonus was that the company organized a direct transfer from SUSU to the plant and back.
