New Project, "Conquering the South Ural", Is Launched for International Students at SUSU

A new project for the university’s international students has been launched at South Ural State University. The main idea of the project is to tell about the South Ural, Chelyabinsk and the region from the point of view of international students and alumni.

In 2020, the South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni officially confirmed its new status. Therefore, the association now has its own Charter, on the basis of which the leadership begins to invite more international students using completely different ideas and methods. One of these is to tell about the South Ural.

"We are expanding the geography of inviting applicants, paying attention to the world’s educational processes and technologies, and trying to keep up with them and offering new programmes in English. At the same time, we have created our YouTube channel. Since our university is situated on the border of Europe and Asia, we want to tell about the South Ural in our videos, and to attract students not only to obtain education here, but also to learn about our local history," said Vice-Rector for International Relations Olga Yaroshenko.

Another method for introducing the region to international students is the "Conquering the South Ural" photo project. On the occasion of the university's birthday, which is celebrated on December 15th, international students will be sharing their photos. The photos should illustrate the places of the South Ural, which they visited during their stay in Russia and which really amazed them.

"We want to present the South Ural region as another Switzerland, because we have magnificent nature and more than three thousand lakes here. Through the photos of our international students we want the new applicants to know that in addition to a quality education, they will obtain cultural, social and regional competences. I launched the project, took a photo myself, and encouraged international students to be free to share their own pictures," shared Olga Yaroshenko.

To participate in the photo project, you need to find several photos of an interesting place and taken in any season in your photo library. Those may depict the streets of the city of Chelyabinsk, a hike or an excursion, mountains or lakes, diving into an ice hole, and much more. It is necessary to describe this place in 2-3 sentences, saying what made it pleasant and memorable for you. E-mail the photo and a letter to chachinavk[at]susu[dot]ru till December 7th. All participants will receive gifts.

The project was organized by the staff members of International Office jointly with the South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni.
