SUSU Defends Projects under the Priority 2030 Program

The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner has reported that our university has come a long way in adapting to new challenges in 2023:

“We have managed to adapt to the current situation. SUSU has taken decent positions in the Shanghai University Ranking, and also got included in the 601-800 group of the Times Higher Education (THE) global ranking. More than 80 scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a large number of postgraduates and young researchers have been involved in the implementation of three strategic projects. We have created new points of growth, opened 7 advanced laboratories, such as Tankograd Youth Design Bureau, and formed the image of centres for collective use of the Inter-university Campus.”

Brief information on the results

Our university participates in the Priority 2030 program in the Research Leadership field. We set the following tasks before ourselves:

  • ensuring global leadership of SUSU in the field of intelligent systems for collecting, processing and analysing information for the economy of a new technological order;
  • providing the development of export of high-tech products of our region;
  • creating a centre of attraction for talents in the Chelyabinsk Region.

Implementation of the strategic projects has helped SUSU create a fundamental basis for the development of world-class technologies as part of import substitution, which will be implemented by 2024 and used in the defence complex as well.

As part of the Intelligent Manufacturing strategic project, an engine demonstrator for a reusable launch vehicle was developed. Jointly with our colleagues from Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and with the production support from the Automobile Plant URAL, the Arctic Bus project, which will ensure the safe transportation of people in the North, is being implemented in accordance with the Government Resolution No. 218.

As part of the New Non-conventional Materials strategic project, a hybrid carbon fibre reinforced plastic with pseudo-isotropic laying was developed, self-cleaning concrete was created, and new samples of high-entropy intermetallic compounds were obtained. In the Synthesis of New Materials for Structural and Functional Purposes field of study, a new stainless steel was experimentally obtained.

As part of the Eco-environment of Post-industrial Agglomerations strategic project, an AIMS Eco environmental air monitoring system, built on neural network algorithms, was developed. Another development is a cloud-based web version of the Ecomonitor software package for environmental monitoring and forecasting of the dispersion of pollutants from enterprises in the atmospheric air. A granular composite photocatalyst, consisting of an inert base and nanoparticles with the TiO2/SiO2 structural formula, was synthesized.
