SUSU Volunteers Awarded Letters of Acknowledgment from the Rector

The elections of the President of the Russian Federation wrapped up, and so did the work of the situation centre for the elections of the President of Russia, in which SUSU students participated as volunteers.

29 volunteers from different institutes and programmes regularly provided consultations for city residents, students and university staff members. Today they have been awarded letters of acknowledgment from the Rector Alexander Wagner.

“There are people who keep their letters of acknowledgment, certificates and other awards. Later, having already gone through a certain path in life, they can look them and remember their participation in the team. SUSU is not just a place for gaining knowledge, but also a community that influences the life of our region, our students and staff members. It’s great when such initiative groups are formed,” said SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner.

He also noted that the electoral culture in Russia is among the most developed ones. But we should continue doing this work, conveying the importance of the process to the younger generation, who will vote for the first time.

“We immediately understood why we were doing all this: to develop the electoral culture of young people, to change this process for the better. I’m glad that the students took their work responsibly and were always ready to help,” said Maksim Dvoinenko, senior lecturer of the Department of International Relations, Political Science and Regional Studies of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications, a member of the public headquarters for control and observation of elections in the Chelyabinsk Region.

Almost all students voted for the first time, and some even tried the method of electronic remote voting.

“I knew I was making a choice that I was willing to keep up with for the next six years. This was very important,” shared one of the volunteers.

Also, together with the Rector, the students discussed the work plan of the SUSU Volunteer Centre. Now they are in the process of changing corporate logos and updating of tasks. Very soon the centre will begin to recruit new volunteers.
